President & Founder of A Place for Us ~ Tammie F. Price

God birthed this ministry in Tammie’s heart in 2001 once God healed her brokenness from becoming pregnant out of wedlock as a teen, and later going through a devastating divorce.  Tammie realized that God could take her mess and use it for His Message.  His healing power was there for every hurt and the answer was always the same; the unconditional love of Christ.  It does her heart good to see young women that choose to enter into the program come to the full realization that God has plans for good and not harm for their lives.  The program started for girls in a crisis pregnancy situations, because Tammie knew initially that each mother had hard choices to make …choosing an adoption plan or parenting their child.  Tammie applauded the fact that each girl chose “life” for their baby over abortion regardless of their decision to parent or do adoption. Later down the road the ministry was extended to include teens with other hurts and life controlling issues.

The Lord has been faithful to get Tammie through every challenge in her own personal life. Tammie has faced many challenges other than becoming pregnant out of wedlock and divorce; she has endured a serious health issue with one of her children, the death of a step son, the loss of her father, and the recent death of her husband of 26 years.  She has learned that God is there and is faithful through every hurt and storm this life brings.  He is able to set the captive free, give sight to the blind, beauty for ashes, joy for morning and healing for the broken hearted (Isaiah 61).  It is her prayer that each young woman or parent(s) that read this site will carefully pray and consider taking a season to seek guidance for the many challenges that brought you to where you are today. Don’t try to ignore and think things will just go away.  Choose life for your child or for yourself, seek wisdom to know the truth, the truth shall set you free!

Director of Programs~ Lesa Jefferies

Lesa earned her Associates Degree in Health Sciences and worked for several years as an Obstetrical Medical Assistant in a local OB/GYN office.  Later she served as Middle School/High School Secretary at Greenwood Christian School and there found that she had a heart for teens that were generally rejected by others.  She also served her church fellowship as a Youth Leader for several years.

Lesa’s desire as the Director at A Place for Us is to show these girls that they have great worth and value; no matter what their situation is.  And that God can take the ashes of their lives and restore them into His perfect beauty.

Secret Place Resale Boutique Coordinator~ Pamela Thomas

Many things have been challenging in the last few years. I returned to Greenwood after being a production manager at a mail order flower company. I was fortunate to find a job with “APFU” ministry working in “The Secret Place”. It has been wonderful to be blessed with people who appreciate and like what you can bring to the table. The ministry means so much to us and the ladies we try to help. May God bless all who continue to help us in this ministry.

House Staff~ Mamie Lee

Mamie holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Lander University. She has 35 years of experience working with infants to the elderly and victims of domestic violence. She is a retired CEO from McCormick Children’s Home.

House Staff ~ Andrea Southerland

Andrea Southerland graduated from Lander University with a degree in English Education. She spent twelve years teaching middle school English; after nearly three years of tutoring children from kindergarten through ninth grade, she left her students in good hands in order to help take care of her grandparents. Meanwhile, she became involved with A Place for Us as a relief house parent and eventually came on as full-time house staff. It has been her life passion to see the broken and lost be forgiven, healed, and set free – especially children and young people.

Learning Center Coordinator ~Sandy Anderson

Sandy has an Associate’s Degree in Human Service and 8 years of work experience as a school social worker/Case Manager. She has over 15 years of service to children and families. Sandy is trained to teach parents how to be supportive of their children as they prepare for early education. Other exposures that Sandy has had include public school districts, government agencies, the court systems, and community resources.

Sandy came to the ministry because she has a passion to help young ladies in crisis situations because of some things that she has had to endure in her own life as a teenager. Her goal is to help girls find hope and discover what their life goals are and put them into action.

Learning Center Assistant~ Shirley Palmore

Shirley came to A Place for Us after working faithfully in the Matthews Mill system for thirty-five years.  When her plant closed down, she joined our staff and has added tremendously to our team with her unique giftings and personality.  She says, “When I came to A Place for Us, it was a new experience – a new thing that I didn’t know. It was a love thing that I learned.  APFUM helped me to become a new person in Christ.”

Life Coach ~ Amy Boyer

Amy graduated from Anderson University with a Bachelors degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. Shortly after teaching, she discovered that her true passion was to interact with children and women on an individual basis. Consequently, she began pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Clemson University. Since completing her master’s degree, her goal has been to be used as an “instrument in the hands of the Redeemer”. She says it is a joy to be given the opportunity to invest in young women’s lives and see the Lord restore “a crown of beauty for ashes” (Isaiah 61:3).
